Cell Membrane Alteration by Weak Alternating Electric Field at Low Frequency
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim is to estimate the influence of sinusoidal (ac) field in combination with the cytostatic drug gemcitabine on the therapeutic effect of malignant cells. Electrotreatment is cell line dependent. There is threshold frequency window (1Hz) that is the most suitable for drug delivery. Hematopoietic cells are more sensitive to the electrotreatment as compared with human lymphocytes from healthy donors.

A long-lived fusogenic state is induced in erythrocyte ghosts by electric pulses
Treatment of erythrocyte ghosts in random positions in a suspension with membrane fusion-inducing direct current electric field pulses causes the membranes to become fusogenic. Significant fusion yields are observed if the membranes are dielectrophoretically aligned into membrane-membrane contact with a weak alternating electric field as much as 5 min after the application of the pulses. This d...
متن کاملRotation of cells in an alternating electric field: the occurrence of a resonance frequency.
Cells suspended in a low-conducting medium were exposed to an alternating electric field whose frequency was altered between 1 kHz and 2 MHz. A resonance frequency was observed at which all suspended cells rotated about an axis normal to the field lines (when the electric field strength was larger than a threshold value of about 400 V/cm). This resonance frequency varied from species to species...
متن کاملThick Film Deposition of Carbon Nanotubes by Alternating Electrophoresis
Electrophoretic deposition of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using alternating current electric fields (0.01-1000 Hz) is reported. Pure acetone was used as suspending medium. Two parallel gold electrodes were used as depositing substrate. The effect of depositing parameters such as frequency and three waveforms (sinusoidal, rectangular and triangular) on deposit yield was investigated. According to ou...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of Tissue Conductivity during High-frequency and Low-voltage Irreversible Electroporation
Introduction: Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a process in which the membrane of the cancer cells are irreversibly damaged with the use of high-intensity electric pulses, which in turn leads to cell death. The IRE is a non-thermal way to ablate the cancer cells. This process relies on the distribution of the electric field, which affects the pulse amplitude, width, and electrical conducti...
متن کاملAlternating electric fields stimulate ATP synthesis in Escherichia coli.
External alternating electric fields of low intensity stimulated membrane bound ATP synthesis in starving Escherichia coli cells with electric field amplitudes of 2.5-50 V/cm and a frequency optimum at 100 Hz. The model of electrocon-formational coupling was used to analyze the frequency and amplitude responses of ATP synthesis. Two relaxation frequencies of the system were obtained at 44 Hz an...
